Many divers prefer to book a nice villa in Sanur or Seminyak and treat that as their base. If you are traveling with non-divers or family who want to shop and hit the cafes, this is often the best move.
From a dive logistics perspective, staying in the south is perfect for hitting Nusa Penida to see the Manta Rays or quick trips to Padang Bai. However, be warned: reaching the famous USAT Liberty Wreck in Tulamben from the south can take over 2.5 hours one way due to traffic.

Instead of spending 5 hours a day in a car, you spend that time relaxing by the pool in Amed or Menjangan. The biggest advantage? You can be the first one in the water.

The Verdict for 2026
