The Best Time to Dive in Bali: A Monthly Weather & Visibility Guide for 2026

So, you are planning your diving holiday for 2026. Excellent choice. One of the most common questions we get here at the dive center is, "When should I book?" The short answer is that Bali is a year-round destination. However, the best time to dive Bali really depends on whether you are chasing giant Mola Mola, looking for crystal-clear visibility, or hunting for tiny macro critters. Let’s break it down by season.

The Dry Season (May to October): Big Fish & Cold Water

If you love blue skies and arguably the best visibility of the year, the dry season is your winner. From May through October, the southeast monsoon winds blow, clearing up the water and bringing cooler temperatures.

This is widely considered the best time to dive Bali if you want to see the famous oceanic sunfish (Mola Mola). They tend to rise from the deep around Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan specifically between August and October. Just be warned: the water can get surprisingly chilly here—dropping to around 20°C (68°F)—so you might want to swap your shorty for a 5mm wetsuit!

The Rainy Season (November to April): Warm Water & Macro Magic

Don't let the name scare you. "Rainy season" in Bali usually means a refreshing downpour in the late afternoon or evening, leaving plenty of sunshine for your morning dives. The water is generally warmer (comfortable 28°C/82°F) during these months.

This is a fantastic time to head north to Tulamben or Amed. Since many of these sites are shore dives, like the legendary USAT Liberty Wreck, you don’t have to worry about rough boat rides if the wind picks up. Plus, the influx of nutrients often brings out incredible macro life, making it a photographer's dream.

  • Book Early for Mola Season: The months of August and September 2026 will be busy. If you want to dive Crystal Bay or Manta Point, secure your spot with us in advance.
  • Check the Moon Phase: Strong currents often align with the new and full moon. If you are a beginner, let us know, and we can schedule your dives at calmer sites like Padang Bai during these times.
  • Bring Layers: Even if it's sunny up top, thermoclines in the Lombok Strait can be cold. We have quality rental gear at Bali Diving, but bringing a hooded vest is never a bad idea.
  • Flexible Itineraries: Weather can change. We always monitor daily conditions to ensure we take you to the safest and clearest spots on the day.
