PADI Open Water Diver in Bali: The Complete Guide

PADI Open Water is the certification that lets you dive independently (with a buddy) anywhere in the world, to a depth of 18 metres. Bali's warm, calm training waters make it one of the most comfortable places to earn it.

The Three Stages

Knowledge development covers the theory — physics, physiology, dive planning, and equipment — usually done through PADI's e-learning before you arrive, or in person across the first day or two.

Confined water sessions take place in a pool or pool-like shallow, calm water, where you practice core skills — mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control — before applying them at depth.

Open water dives — four in total — put those skills to work at a real site. We run these at Tulamben and Padang Bai, both shallow, calm, and forgiving for first-time certification dives.

How Long It Takes

Most students finish in 3–4 days if e-learning is completed before arrival. A fully in-person course without prior e-learning typically needs an extra day or two. We can also spread the course over more days if your schedule is flexible and you'd rather not rush it.

After Certification

Once certified, you can join our regular fun dive trips to Nusa Penida, Amed, and beyond. Many divers move on to PADI Advanced Open Water within the same trip, since it builds directly on Open Water skills and opens up deeper sites.

  • Minimum age: 10 (Junior Open Water, with depth limits) or 15 for full certification.
  • Fitness: a medical questionnaire is required; certain conditions need a doctor's sign-off.
  • What's included: materials, all equipment, instructor fees, and the four open water dives.
