How the Session Runs
You'll start with a short briefing on land covering equipment, basic hand signals, and equalising your ears. Then it's into shallow, calm water with an instructor for a confined skills practice — breathing through the regulator, clearing your mask, staying neutrally buoyant — before moving to a real, shallow open-water site.
Your instructor stays within arm's reach the entire dive. This isn't a course where you're expected to problem-solve alone; it's guided, one-on-one or small-group, from entry to exit.
Where We Take You
Tulamben and Padang Bai are our usual picks for Try Scuba — both have gentle, shallow entries and calm conditions, and Tulamben even means your first-ever dive can be alongside the USAT Liberty wreck.
Good to Know
- No certification needed: this is a supervised experience, not a qualification.
- Swimming ability: basic water comfort helps, but you don't need to be a strong swimmer — tell us in advance so we can plan accordingly.
- Loved it? Time spent on a Try Scuba dive can often count toward your PADI Open Water course if you decide to get certified.
