Menjangan Island is a small, uninhabited island off the north-west coast of Bali, inside West Bali National Park. Because it is protected and far from the busy south, its reefs are among the healthiest in Bali, and the dive sites rarely feel crowded.

Why divers love Menjangan

What you will see

Along the walls you can expect turtles, reef sharks resting in the blue, schools of fusiliers and batfish, moray eels and a wide variety of nudibranchs and other small creatures. There is also the Anker Wreck, an old wooden ship at around 30 to 40 metres, for advanced divers.

Who this dive suits

Menjangan is a good choice for almost every level. Beginners and snorkellers can stay on the shallow reef top, Open Water divers can explore the upper part of the walls, and advanced divers can follow them deeper. The calm conditions also make it a comfortable place for underwater photography.

Planning the trip

Menjangan is the furthest of Bali's main dive areas from the tourist centres in the south. The drive to the harbour at Labuhan Lalang takes around 4 to 5 hours, followed by about 30 minutes by boat. For that reason most divers spend at least one night in the Pemuteran or Banyuwedang area and dive Menjangan over one or two days.

Menjangan is not one of the fixed day trips on our price list. If you would like to include it in your holiday, mention it to our team when you book and we will help you plan it alongside your other dives.

Best time to go

The island can be dived all year. The dry season from April to November usually offers the clearest water. Because it is sheltered, Menjangan is also a good alternative when the swell makes the south and east coasts difficult.

Frequently asked questions
